Two men have been charged after drugs with a street value of more than £1million were seized by police.

About 200 kilos of cannabis and 1.5kg of cocaine were found in two vans stopped by officers in Thurrock on February 7.

Robert Preston, 53, of Great Stony Park, Ongar and 23-year-old f Lee Samways, of Stradbroke Grove, Buckhurst Hill were arrested and charged with drug offences.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Smith said: "Through this operation we have prevented a large quantity of drugs from being distributed and made arrests of people involved in the supply chain.

Drugs ultimately cause misery to people’s lives and lead to further crime.”

Both men appeared before magistrates in Chelmsford on February 8.

The Guardian is awaiting details on the outcome of the hearing.
