A pilot project aimed at helping young people in custody is to be led by Waltham Forest Council.
The Youth Justice Board has provided three years worth of funding for the programme, which is taking place across six boroughs.
The aim is to improve education, employment opportunities and relationships.
Councillor Clare Coghill, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “This gives us a fantastic opportunity to develop our existing plans and to help shape national policy on helping young people re-settle into their communities and lead productive lives.”
The other boroughs involved are Islington, Enfield, Redbridge, Hackney and Newham
