A literacy charity is looking for volunteers to help improve the reading skills of children in Waltham Forest.

The Beanstalk charity in partnership with The Legacy List, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park charity, has put £100,000 towards recruiting reading helpers to work in Waltham Forest schools.

Beanstalk currently has reading helpers in 11 primary schools in Waltham Forest, with five further schools interested once volunteers are available.

Current helpers work with almost 200 children across the borough.

Beanstalk  vets, trains and supports volunteers who become one-to-one helpers in schools, spending 30 minutes with each child twice a week.

The Legacy List is an independent charity set up by the Mayor of London and the Legacy Corporation.
