Panels could be installed on offices

East London and West Essex Guardian Series: Epping Forest District Council will consider putting solar panels on the roofs of its offices Epping Forest District Council will consider putting solar panels on the roofs of its offices

Solar panels could be installed on council offices in a scheme aimed at saving taxpayers' money and cutting the authority's carbon footprint.

A proposal set to be discussed by Epping Forest's District Council's cabinet sets an installation cost of £79,689, which would be paid back in eight years through projected savings and revenue.

The panels would be installed on two of the offices in High Street, Epping - the Civic building and the condor building.

The authority estimates it would cut its carbon footprint by around 23,000kgs per year.

The cabinet is set to make a decision on March 3.

If agreed, planning consent would have to be given and building regulations met before work could be carried out.
