Parking charges are set to rise so Epping Forest District Council can freeze the amount it gets from council tax.

The overall council tax bill in Essex is set to increase slightly to cover an 1.97 per cent increase in funding for police.

Essex Police Commissioner Nick Alston was forced to ditch a plan to increase funding by 3.5 per cent after it emerged this would require a referendum costing £2million.

The district council is yet to decide which car parks will be affected by the hike and what increases will be applied, but it estimates an increase in revenue of £150,000 during 2014/15.

The precept to Essex County Council and Essex Fire Authority will remain at current levels, resulting in a total council tax bill of £1446.21 from a Band D property in the next financial year.
