Tottenham Hotspur are set to leave Epping Forest at the end of this month.

The football club has confirmed that it will close its old training ground and press centre and move to another site as it is too small.

Spurs Lodge in Luxborough Lane, Chigwell, has been used since 1996 but has been moving more and more activity to its Enfield training centre in the last 18 months.

A club spokesman said that although it will leave the Lodge, community football courses will still be provided in the district.

He said: "Tottenham Hotspur has kept an active presence at Spurs Lodge over the past two years since we moved to our new training centre in Enfield.

“During that period, the club has continued to deliver community programming both at the Lodge and across Epping Forest and will continue to do so.

"The club's programme at the Lodge will come to a close at the end of February and we are now currently in discussions with partners about the long term plans for the Spurs Lodge site.

“These will be brought forward in due course once the appropriate engagement has taken place with key stakeholders including the local authority."

A move towards the £45m facility in Enfield has been on the cards since 2010 when then manager Harry Redknapp said that it was "essential" for the evolving team.

Spurs Lodge was previously the training ground for the club's first team and the home of the Tottenham Hotspur Academy.
