East London and West Essex Guardian Series: The A406 North Circular road is one of the most polluted in the UK The A406 North Circular road is one of the most polluted in the UK

A busy stretch of road which runs through Redbridge and Waltham Forest has been found to be one of the most polluted in the country.

The A406 North Circular, which also runs through South Woodford and the Walthamstow/Chingford border, has the 24th highest levels of nitrogen dioxide, according to figures released by the Department for Environment and Rural Affiars (Defra).

In August last year it was revealed the road was the most polluted road in the capital outside central London.

Air pollution can increase asthma levels and affect cardiovascular and other respiratory conditions.

It's not only the nitrogen dioxide that's polluting that area, it's all the dust that is polluting the air that is being put in the air buy the traffic using the A406.
The dust if from the concrete crushing works that is down along the river
The lorries are in and at out there all day long, depositing mud on the road which then gets churned up by passing traffic.. All the houses in the area are blighted by airborne dust. Our cars are always dirty, and you don't hang washing out in the garden as it comes in dirtier than before it was washed..The gutters and drains are full of dust, when it rains there are massive puddles by the lights in Hall Lane as the drains are full of dirt. So with the high levels of nitrogen dioxide and the airborne dust no wonder my husband and myself have breathing problems.
