A century-old scouts group is to change its name next month.

The 1st Walthamstow Scouts is to be renamed as the 1st Highams Park Scouts to reflect the group's location.

Every Thursday evening, members of the scout group meet at All Saints Church in Church Avenue, Highams Park.

The former 1st Walthamstow Scouts moved to Highams Park in the 1980s and leaders have agreed it is time to change.

Group Scout leader Paul Lunn was based in Walthamstow as a cub 40 years ago.

He said: "Historically we were based in Walthamstow at Thorpe Hall School but moved to Highams Park many years ago.

"The scouts are getting more and more popular and we feel it is time to change the name to reflect our location."

A ceremonical confirmation of the change of name, involving a flag blessing from the church's vicar Reverend Steve Clarke will take place on March 9 at 10:30am.
