The licensee of a controversial nightclub has told the Guardian there will be ‘good news’ later regarding its future.
Funky Mojoe, in High Road, South Woodford, launched a High Court bid to overturn a decision to limit its opening times to normal pub hours.
However, the High Court upheld the decision last week and ordered Funky Mojoe to pay the council’s legal costs of £127,000 and denied them the right to appeal.
However, it has emerged the club can appeal against the initial Magistrates Court ruling.
The club tweeted yesterday that news was to be announced regarding the club’s future.
Licensee Kerry O’Reilly said: “I think the news is good. I expect a lot of people won’t agree, but we are the best venue around that do what we do.
“I can’t confirm what the news is until my solicitors have spoken to the council.”
Funky Mojoe management has declined to comment until now and the venue remained closed at the weekend.
Opening hours were reduced earlier this year after the council's licensing committee was shown CCTV evidence of several serious assaults outside the venue.
