A new edition of a book about a local park has been released with new material.

Wanstead and its Park by Oliver S Dawson was first published in 1894 as a booklet and published again in instalments in 1907 and 1908 for The Home Counties Magazine.

Friends of Wanstead Parklands have now re-released the book with an account of the author’s life and notes on the original text.

It tells of people who have owned the Wanstead estate, the City of London Corporation’s rescue of the park, as well as contemporary photos and other illustrations.

Editor and member of FOWP, Richard Arnopp, said: “We hope that our re-publication of this interesting period piece, with much new content, will appeal to the widespread local interest in the park’s fascinating history.”

The book can be purchased from FOWP’s website for £9.99 with free delivery for Wanstead residents.
