A series of karate clubs will be kicking and punching their way to a big total for hospices in the area.

United Karate Association, which has several clubs in Epping Forest, is raising money for Haven House Children’s Hospice in High Road, Woodford Green, and St Clare Hospice in Hastingwood Road, Hastingwood.

Members hope to raise well over £1,000 with by performing 1,000 kicks, punches and blocks each, which they have received sponsorship for.

Chief instructor Ian Cuthbert said: “It’s a great cause and some of the kids are getting a better workout than normal training.”

The organisation has carried out similar challenges before, raising money for hospitals and doctor’s surgeries in the area.
