A man has died following what is thought be an attempted burglary in Waltham Abbey.

Police were called to the scene in Mason Way by ambulance staff at around 1pm today.

According to local reports the man, who has not yet been formally identified, is believed to have died after a fence panel collapsed on to him as he was leaving the property.

No next of kin have been informed.

A second man, aged 51, from Waltham Abbey, was arrested on suspicion of burglary in nearby Lucas Court, close to the location of the incident.

The man was arrested at around 3pm today.
