Police officers are raising money for charity by taking part in the London to Brighton 100km challenge.

The six officers, based at Woodford police station in High Road, Woodford Green, will complete the challenge in aid of Blind Veterans UK, a national charity for blind and visually impaired ex-servicemen and women.

Sergeant Jez Tyler said: “I got a letter from Blind Veterans UK challenging me to take part in the event and thought it would be a great way to challenge myself and support the charity.

“I asked if anyone in my team wanted to do it and there were a lot of people who were really keen to support it – we very quickly had seven officers signed up for the event.

“The level of commitment from my officers has been absolutely amazing – there’s even one PC who’s planning to do the whole 100km just two months after she’s due to give birth.”

The event will begin in Putney on June 21 and concludes on June 22, with three rest stops and hot food along the way.
