Thousands of pounds were stolen during an overnight raid on a petrol station.

Police say intruders entered the BP garage at the Four Waltz roundabout in Ongar between 12.30am and 12.50am yesterday.

Alcohol and cigarettes were also stolen, as well as a five-figure some of cash.

There are no reports of arrests.

The garage was open at the time, but police have not revealed any further details.
