A retired maths teacher has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a teenage girl he was privately tutoring at his home.

A jury at Chelmsford Crown Court took five hours to convict Paul Wilson, 67, of St Leonards Road in Nazeing, of molesting the girl during a massage.

Wilson was cleared of two other charges of sexual assault on the same victim.

He had denied all three offences, which were alleged to have taken place between April 2011 and October 2012, when the girl was aged 14 to 16.

Wilson, who retired from his post as head of maths at Stewards School in Harlow in 2004, denied he had inappropriately touched the girl.

He said she had exaggerated and lied, saying it was "a complete mystery" why she had fabricated the allegations.

The jury heard that while she lay in jeans and t-shirt on cushions on the living room floor in Wilson's home he groped her breasts and stomach.

It was also claimed that Wilson took the girl shopping on her 15th and 16th birthdays to buy her a treat with the girl saying he encouraged her to "get some bras".

Wilson spent 20 years teaching at Stewards school and also taught at the former Netteswell Grammar in Harlow, Epping Forest High in Debden and at St Julian's school in St Albans.

Sentencing has been adjourned until next month and Wilson was released on bail.
