Road safety improvements have been promised after a number of cars crashed into buildings in the last three weeks.

Lower Park Road, in Loughton, has seen two cars plough into living rooms in the early hours of the morning.

A car hit the home of Jean Garnell, 82, in Collins Court at 3am on February 23.

In the second incident, two cars collided and a taxi crashed through the front window of a home in Roding Court opposite at 5am on March 5.

Three people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Then on Friday, a car crashed into a home in Southview Road.

A man in his 80s was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A petition has been started by residents calling for safety measures, improvements to signs and markings, and a rethink on the switching off of street lights across Essex to save money.

Now Essex County Council has said changes will be made.

A spokesman said: "Essex County Council is aware of the safety concerns raised by local residents regarding this location and the road markings.

“A number of road marking, signage improvements and surface repairs will be quickly progressed for this location.”

However, the council added that in “no way” does it acknowledge that a lack of markings contributed to the accidents.
