Tributes have been paid to a “role model” teenager who died on Sunday.

Aneesha Fazarally, 14, a pupil at Heathcote School and Science College in Normanton Park, has been described as “always having a smile on her face”.

The circumstances surrounding the Year 10 pupil’s death have not been made public.

In a tribute posted online, her form tutor said: "Aneesha was a great role model to her peers and always had a friendly smile on her face.

"She also had an assertive side to her character and would always stand up for what she believed in.

"She was a popular member of the school and especially in her form, always there to give a helping hand to anyone who would need one. We will all really miss her positive spirit."

Headteacher Zoë Cozens added: “As a school we feel a student's death very deeply and our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this sad time.”

A book of remembrance has been set up and students can lay flowers at the school.

Tributes have been paid to Aneesha on Twitter.

Brook Barker wrote: "It only just hit me realising we won't hear her voice or see her again, rip Aneesha you will be missed and never forgotten."

Amy Bowers said: "bad things always happen to the best people, R.I.P Aneesha."

Taylor Marina tweeted: "You'll never know the last time you might see someone - so shocked."

How very sad when someone that age dies. My thoughts are with her family and friends.

I'm so saddened and shocked - such terrible news. My son was in the same class as her at primary school and also goes to Heathcote. I have seen her grow up from a cute little girl to the lovely teenager she became. My thoughts are with her family at such a terrible time
