A man was hospitalised after his car crashed into a wall.

The Fiat Panda demolished the 6ft wall outside The Retreat mobile home park in Brook Road, Buckhurst Hill, at 6pm yesterday.

The 29-year-old driver, who had got out of the car by the time emergency services arrived was treated for hand and knee injuries and taken to Whipps Cross Hospital by ambulance.

The road was closed in both directions for around two hours so debris could be removed from the road.

Audrey Ellis, 80, who lives in The Retreat, said the wall was completely demolished.

She added: “We’re very vulnerable here and we’ve asked Redbridge council to put in traffic calming measures, but they have said there would need to be a fatality before they could act.”

Mrs Ellis said there had been a similar incident in December.

Redbridge Council has been contacted for a response.
