The Mall Walthamstow will undergo a £3m interior refurbishment, it was announced this week.

Chris Bracey of Gods Own Junkyard, the Walthamstow neon sign gallery, will create unique signs for the centre.

New shop fronts, flooring and a staircase in the central square will be installed and the interior brickwork will be replaced when work begins in June.

A ribbon ceiling feature will also run through the shopping centre, which bosses say will “temper sunlight flooding into the building and provide backdrop onto which rays will be projected at night”.

Alasdair Currie, general manager for The Mall Walthamstow, said: “The refurbishment is great news for Walthamstow and it’s a fantastic opportunity to modernise The Mall to meet customer needs.

“The revamp will refresh and revitalise the inside of The Mall and add colour and vibrancy.”

The work comes ahead of longer-term enlargement plans for the shopping centre, according to head office.

No further details of these plans have been release.

Work is expected to be complete by March 2015.

Business will continue as normal with most work taking place during closing hours.
