A marquee has been erected on a playing field without planning permission despite a council warning.

The Frenford Club erected the marquee this week on a pitch at Oakfield Playing Fields, in Fencepiece Road, Barkingside, for several events over the summer.

Redbridge Council, which lease the land to the club, have written to the owners to ask for the marquee to be taken down.

A statement on the council website said: “We have a duty to ensure that any development is lawful and that developments in any area are appropriate and necessary.

“We will be meeting the club this week to seek compliance with the lease as well as resolving planning and potential noise issues and to secure the marquee’s removal.”

The club confirmed it has erected the marquee to “test it and see if it fits its purpose”.

A meeting is planned on March 23 to resolve the issue.
