Three singers with connections to Waltham Forest made it through to the final of BBC's The Voice.

Jermain Jackman, a 2013 graduate of Sir George Monoux College in Chingford Road, Walthamstow, impressed all four judges with last night's performance.

The 19-year-old, from Hakcney, performed Will.i.am's mother's favourite song, A House is Not a Home by Luther Vandross.

Will.i.am described the young singer as 'humble' and added: "Jermain is an old soul. He has a heart of gold."

"He is well mannered, humble, but his humbleness could hold him back. You cannot lightly decapitate your competition. You’ve just got to slice."

Re-iterating previous comments about his ambitious political career, Mr Jackman said: "I want my music to help people. I want to be the first singing black prime minister. You might find a black prime minister before me but he can’t sing. I am going to be the singer."

Also, on judge Will's team to make it through as one of his final three was 19-year-old Iesher Haughton.

The former Waltham Forest College student sang Whitney Houston's Try It On Your Own.

Manchester-born Chris Royal secured a place in team Ricky Wilson's final 3.

The Walthamstow resident sang a modern rendition of Judy Garland's Over the Raindow.

On selecting Chris, the Kaiser Chief star said: "The thing about Chris is, he walks in the room and you think ‘Chris is here, everything’s fine’ and that’s before he even opens his mouth to sing. He is is an unlikely but perfect popstar."

Mr Royal said he moved to Walthamstow to follow his dream.

He said: "I moved from Manchester to London to pursue music and follow my dream. This song talks about finding your dreams, that’s the reason I picked it."

A fourth hopeful, Gary Poole, of Friday Hill in Chingford, failed to secure a place in the final three with George Michael's Freedom.

The 49-year-old said: "The knockouts were brutal as you don't really know what everyone else is performing and you have 1 minute 20 seconds to sell yourself.

"There's no bad feelings, it's been a great, exciting and nerve racking experience and I'm just grateful to have got this far in the competition."

In total, 16 contestants left the show this weekend, leaving just 12 acts left.
