School children across Redbridge played and sang at biennial concert at the Royal Albert Hall yesterday.

There was a mix of music including African drumming and Indian traditional songs alongside classical compositions and pop at this year’s Redbridge Schools’ Choral Festival

Primary and secondary pupils performed songs from The Beatles, Carl Orff and Gustav Holst at the famous venue as part of the event organised by the Redbridge Music Service.

Wendy Thomas, headteacher at Churchfields Junior School in Churchfields, Woodford Green, said: “It was absolutely fantastic.

“The quality of the music with the orchestra and choirs was amazing and it would be difficult to match the enjoyment of the event.”

Staff from Churchfields worked alongside teachers at Cleveland Junior School to choreograph one of the opening dances in the concert.

Ms Thomas added: “It is important that the children have the opportunity to perform an auditorium of such magnitude and to work with other pupils and other schools.

“It’s a very inclusive event and a lovely bonding experience for the Redbridge community.”

Mark Hemsley, headteacher at Wanstead Church School, said: "It was a real showcase of talent and I was struck by the range of children who came together.
