The nursery at which a two-year-old girl died is being monitored by Ofsted, a report confirmed today.

Despite being taken over by a new company following the tragic death of Rhiya Malin in 2007, Eton Manor Children's Day Nursery, is once again under scrutiny from the education watchdog.

A report released today confirms that a Welfare Requirements Notice was served on the nursery at the beginning of the year.

It highlights that “potential hazards in the outside area” were removed after a visit in January and that staff training had to be updated.

The Roding Lane nursery was inspected by Ofsted in January and given two weeks to make improvements.

The notice was served on the nursery ordering it to make immediate improvements including check the “safety and suitability of premises, environment and equipment”.

It was also told to ensure that children are supported and that the premises are secure against unauthorised people entering the building.

These actions were met by February 2014 although Ofsted has confirmed that it is monitoring progress made by the nursery, now run by Bright Horizons which bought Casterbridge Nurseries Ltd.

However, the nursery which cares for 157 children is judged as ‘Good’ overall.

In November 2007 Rhiya Malin was found with her head stuck in a playhouse outside.

She died from a heart attack caused by strangulation.

Epping Forest District Council brought a successful prosecution against the nursery last year.

Kayley Murphy a nursery nurse of Greenfields in Loughton was convicted of neglect in February 2013.

It was found that she was talking on her phone immediately before Rhiya’s death.

The nursery has been asked to comment.
