A brother who has campaigned for a true account of his sister’s death 12 years ago has spoken of his experience.

Bernie Bloom, 64, has described his search for justice for his sister as “traumatising” and “heartbreaking.”

Carmel Bloom, 54, who lived in Snakes Lane East, Woodford Green, died during a routine operation in a Bupa hospital in Roding Lane South, in Clayhall, in 2002, which has since been taken over by Spire Healthcare and is now known as Spire Roding Hospital.

There were inquests in 2003 and 2005, but Mr Bloom was informed by the Attorney General’s office on Wednesday he has been given consent to apply for a third inquest.

the consent was given because documents obtained from London Ambulance Service, which could undermine the previous inquest’s narrative verdict, will now be available to the inquiry.

Mr Bloom of High Road, Chigwell, who runs his own business selling Mercedes vehicles, said he was fortunate to be in the position to be able to afford his fight.

He said: “I haven’t had a life for the last 12 years, I’ve just been existing.

My father has died and my mother passed away last month, so neither of them has seen justice for my sister.”

On receiving the consent to apply for a new inquest into his sister’s death he said: “There was a sense is elation because it’s something you have fought for and given a lot of time to.

“There is also a sense of desperation though, at having to go through all the trauma and heartbreak of the case again.”
