A team of girls from Leytonstone are the new queens of London student volleyball after taking gold at the London Youth Games this week.
The girls from Leytonstone School in Colworth Road came out on top at Europe’s largest annual youth sports event after 70 girls' matches involving teams from across the capital.
After defeating Richmond’s Orleans Park in the final 25-13 captain Kinga Florczak said the team’s hard work and training paid off.
“We’re really proud, we did a lot of training before we came here,” she said.
“And we worked as a team which is the most important thing.
“It’s a bit of a surprise, we came here thinking there were a lot of hard teams. Some of them were hard, but we worked as a team and we did it.”
