A volunteer pilot instructor scooped an award for service at a ceremony.

Wanstead and Woodford Air Training Corps (ATC) volunteer instructor, warrant officer Lee Morris, was awarded the Greater London Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (GL RFCA) Certificate for Meritorious Service to London Cadets.

Mr Morris, from Waltham Forest, received the award at the association’s awards ceremony held on March 13 in Handel Street, St Pancras, in recognition of his contribution to the Air Training Corps.

The 38-year-old has been a member of the ATC since 1989.  He is responsible for cadet welfare and is involved in the squadron’s adventure training activities.

He said: “I always liked the idea of being part of a military organisation and I have experienced shooting, flying, adventure training and visits to Air Force units.

“Being a member of the ATC has enabled me to develop self-motivation, self-confidence and the discipline to develop my organisational skills and initiative.  I want to keep working with young individuals and teach and encourage them, plus we are always learning ourselves which keeps it interesting.”
