Racist attack victim Berry Sohal questions response of police
The victim of a racist attack has criticised a police delay in releasing vital CCTV evidence.
Berry Sohal, from Chigwell, was one of seven people targeted by a gang who shouted racist abuse before launching the attack outside the Slug and Lettuce in George Lane, South Woodford, at 2am on November 9 last year.
Anil Chadha, from Leyton, was knocked unconscious and his friend Samra Singh was also repeatedly beaten.
Miss Sohal lodged a complaint to The Metropolitan Police about the way the case was initially handled, claiming the victims were not visited quickly enough and there was a delay collecting and analysing CCTV.
And now as police today release images of the suspects, Miss Sohal has described the delay as "ridiculous".
She said: "It is ridiculous how long this has taken.
"It is no excuse that they are busy, it only shows the public there is not enough police out there.
"Crime will only get worse if people see how long this has gone on for.
"We want answers as to why this case has dragged on, as the only feedback we have received is how busy they are with other cases.
"I am very upset with the way they have dealt with this. There is no justice here and it should have been sorted a long time ago.
"I hope there are people out there who recognise these suspects because they could commit a similar crime tomorrow."
No arrests have yet been made in connection with the case.
An investigation into Miss Sohal’s complaint is yet to be completed.
The investigating officer DC Colin Rumsam from Ilford Serious Crime Unit said: "It took some time to obtain the relevant images through a CCTV trawl.
"After that, as per protocol, the images were circulated via MetCU (where we circulate images internally across the Met for officers to view).
"I left this for a couple of months so as not to undermine the case (If the witnesses see the images in the press it undermines any potential ID procedure in the future). I have explained this to the main victim already."
