Streets in Wanstead are going to be deep cleaned to get rid of stains and chewing gum.
Paved areas of the High Street from Grove Park to Cambridge Park, Grove Park to Nightingale Lane and from Nightingale Road to Wellington Road will be included.
The total cost of this will be £12,500 with half of it being taken from the Area One Committee discretionary budget and the other half being match funded by Highways.
Councillor Sue Nolan welcomed the move saying that after a walk along Wanstead High Street the amount of chewing gum was “disgusting”.
