A large lorry caused traffic chaos this morning when it became stuck in a Highams Park road.

The truck, which was carrying a huge digger, was stuck for around an hour in Winchester Road during this morning’s rush hour.

Nearby roads became gridlocked as it blocked cars and buses from passing, one resident said.

Winchester Road resident Karen Murray claims the narrow and already congested road is a designated route for oversized vehicles and often experiences such delays.

“I was woken by the noise of the lorry moving down the road and said to my husband ‘They must’ve closed the road off to allow that down here’ but they hadn’t,” the 42-year-old said.

“The lorry got stuck half way down the road and chaos prevailed for the next hour.”

The walk leader who works for Epping Forest District Council is currently gathering signatures for a petition asking for traffic calming measures to be installed in the street.
