The experiences of those living through the First World War will be marked with a month of library events.

Across Redbridge, events will be taking place in partnership with Cityread London, which promotes reading in the capital.

Events start at Wanstead Library, Spratt Hall Road, on Tuesday with a talk by bestselling author Adele Parks on her latest book Spare Brides at 7pm.

The novel looks at the lives of four women living in Britain immediately after the war.

The library will then host a discussion on how women in Redbridge and other London boroughs contributed to the war effort on April 10 at 6.30pm.

Redbridge Central Library, in Clements Road, Ilford, will hold a discussion with author Ian Dowling on how Londoners spent their leisure time during the war on April 22 at 2pm.

The scheme will also encourage reading for children with storyteller John Kirk reading Michael Morpurgo’s book Private Peaceful, to children aged 7 and up at Redbridge Central Library on April 25.
