A cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries after colliding with a bus yesterday afternoon.

Ambulance crews were called to Broomstick Hall Road in Waltham Abbey at around 1.40pm and took the man, who is believed to be in his 40s, to the Royal London Hospital by ambulance.

He had sustained a head injury and also serious pelvic injuries.

It is thought the cyclist came from the direction of Ninefields into Broomstick Hall Road and struck the windscreen of the 251 bus with such force that it cracked.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said the bus driver, in his 50s, was shaken but uninjured.

A woman in her 60s on the bus sustained minor injuries to her knees but was not taken to hospital.

Hertfordshire Air Ambulance attended the incident near King Harold Academy but was not used.
