Friends have paid tribute to two men who died in a plane crash yesterday afternoon.
A YAK 52 light aircraft crashed into a field adjacent to the A414 near Cooksmill Green, between Ongar and Writtle, killing both the pilot and his passenger.
The aircraft was based at North Weald airfield and came down at around 3pm.
Alan Crouchman, from the Squadron flight club, based at North Weald airfield, said:"We are all deeply saddened and shocked at the loss of two very close friends of ours.
"The thoughts and condolences of everyone at the airfield go out to their families at this very difficult time."
The cause of the crash is unknown and is being investigated by the Air Accident Investigation Branch.
The families of the two men, from Essex, who died have been notified but their identties have not been released.
