A mother and her child has been discharged from hospital after they were hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing.

Two women, one pushing a three-year-old boy in a pram, were using the crossing near the Tesco superstore in Larkshall Road, Highams Park, on Friday when the women with the pram was hit by a Renault Scenic.

The 25 year-old suffered whar were described as severe head injuries and was taken to Royal London Hospital as a priorty.

According to eyewitness Barry Gittos, the toddler in the pram become separated from the mother on impact.  

The toddler was checked over at the scene by paramedics and taken to Whipps Cross Hospital with minor injuries.

Police have confirmed the mother and child were discharged from both hospitals just after 4pm on Friday.

Ambulance services were called to the scene at 11am on Friday following reports of a collision.

The driver of the Renault, a man in his 80s, was accompanied by his wife in the front passenger seat as they travelled in the direction of Highams Park.

Police say no arrests have been made and enquiries continue.
