Two secondary schools must increase increase pupil numbers by 50 per cent to meet future demand for places, a report has found.

A £132,000 study commissioned by Redbridge Council concluded that both Ilford County and Woodford County High Schools should increase yearly intake from 120 pupils to 180.

Officers said there is sufficient space at both sites for the additional classrooms and facilities required, which would cost £22million.

Both schools are selective grammar schools and have sixth forms.

The study will be discussed by cabinet on Tuesday, with a consultation process being considered.

If agreed, the expansion could be completed for intake in 2016/17.
