A man accused of attacking a grandfather infront of his family is set to appear in court today.

Raymond West, 49, of Chigwell Road, Woodford Green, is charged with assault by beating and using threatening behaviour towards 70-year-old George Douglas.

Mr Douglas was attacked in front of his grandchildren on board a train from Southend Victoria to Shenfield on August 23 last year.

Police later issued a public appeal showing a CCTV image of the suspect wearing a West Ham United shirt.

West appeared at Basildon Magistrates Court in December charged with one count of common assault, which was dropped in favour of one count of assault by beating.

He was remanded on unconditional bail ahead of today's hearing at Basildon Magistrates Court.
