Economics students finished third in a national competition and won £2,000 with their ideas on how to control inflation.

The four pupils from Ilford County High School in Fremantle Road, Barkingside, competed against seven other schools in the final of the Bank of England’s Target Two Point Zero competition.

Sunny Dasgupta, Haseem Shah, Shane Vamadevan and Sandeep Vijayakumar, all in Year 13, impressed judges with their presentation last Friday, winning £2,000 for school equipment.

They won the London regional heat last month to give them a chance to win £10,000 at the Bank of England's headquarters in Threadneedle Street, London.
