The High Beach visitor centre in Epping Forest was re-opened last weekend by a community group.

The centre will now be run by the Friends of Epping Forest after it was temporarily closed at the end of last year for improvements.

The new look centre has maps, walks and information about the Forest, a bird observation window and a gift shop.

Volunteers are also available to help visitors find out more about the wildlife in the Forest.

More than 85 visitors attended the opening, including City Corporation Epping Forest Chairman, Alderman Gordon Haines and Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing.

It will initially be open on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays between 11am and 4pm in the summer and 10am and 3pm in the winter.

Judy Adams, chairman of Friends of Epping Forest, said: “We welcome this opportunity to work with the City of London Corporation in a new partnership to develop the services for visitors at High Beach.

“We are really grateful for the over 20 new volunteer Information Assistants who have come forward to share their love of the Forest with visitors and to help them make the most of their visits.”
