A man attacked a police officer has been jailed for 12 weeks.

Marian Chesaru, of no fixed abode, kicked a police officer in the knee after resisting arrest on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon in Ilford Lane, Ilford, at 2.15am on April 7.

Police described the weapon as a sharp piece of wood.

The 36-year-old pleaded guilty to handling an offensive weapon and to the assault on police at Barkingside Magistrates Court on April 8 and has been jailed for 12 weeks.
