A bid to gain an alcohol licence for a grade II-listed and use it as a wedding venue has been met with strong opposition.

The company, listed as LMO UK, hopes to serve alcohol at The Great Hall in Adelaide Road, Leyton, between 8am and 11.30pm, Monday to Thursday, and until midnight at weekends.

The hall, which is in a residential area, was purchased from the council by Michael Polledri, chairman of Lee Valley estates, in 2006.

Company LMO UK is now hoping to use the hall, built in 1896, as a wedding venue.

But ten households have objected to the proposal, which is due to be considered by the licensing committee on April 23.

They cite anti-social behaviour and noise as concerns.
