One of the biggest collections of guns ever seized by the Metropolitan Police was found during a raid in Leyton.

An arsenal of 30 firearms, including assault rifles, sawn-off shotguns, an Uzi and a Thompson machine gun, were uncovered during the anti-gang operation at an unspecified address yesterday at 8.40am.

A large amount of ammunition was also seized.

Police have ruled out a link to terrorism.

A 51-year-old man was arrested at the address and remains in custody.

Police say the number of shootings in London has fallen by 40 per cent in the last two years and officers have seized more than 320 firearms since April 2013.

Trident detectives are investigating the circumstances and nature of the seizure.

Acting Detective Superintendent Gary Bruce said "Seizing guns has helped us vastly reduce gun crime across the capital.

"The size of the seizure is exceptional and the danger of the these weapons in the wrong hands cannot be overestimated."
