Youngsters got hands on with hose reels when they visited a fire station.
Members of the Yip Yop Youth club were given the chance to see what it takes to be a firefighter when they visited the station in Waltham Abbey on Thursday.
The club, part of Waltham Abbey Youth 2000, arranged for its members to see the work of firemen after being awarded a trophy by the fire service at the High Sheriff's Awards in March.
The awards recognise the work of voluntary and community organisations across the county in promoting community safety.
The charity's chairman of trustees, Elaine Fletcher said: "It was a brilliant opportunity for the young club to visit the fire station and they loved getting involved with the activities.
"We were very proud to recieve the award and it will help continue the charity's work with the young people of Waltham Abbey."
