High rise residents were evacuated in the early hours of this morning after a fire broke out on the sixth floor.

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters were at the scene to contain the fire, which broke out in an electrical cupboard on the sixth floor in The Bridle Path, Woodford Green.

Seven people who living on the same floor were evacuated as a precaution.

Emergency services were called at 4.54am and the fire was under control by 5.49am.

Watch manager Daren Horrigan, who was at the scene, said: “All other residents stayed inside their flats which was much safer than attempting to escape, which could have been risky due to the smoke and firefighting equipment.

“There was no panic, nor smoke spreading to other floors, and no one was injured.

“Living in a flat is not more dangerous than living in a house, but it’s important to know what your fire plan is and how you’d escape if a fire did break out.”

The cause of the investigation is under investigation.
