More acts, performers, and high-profile figures have been announced for the return of the Chingford Village Festival.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the summertime event, organiser Irene Bull has said there will be more entertainers and activities than ever before.

The popular event along Station Road was last held in 2012 and attracted crowds of up to 10,000 people, but Ms Bull expects this year's visitor numbers to be higher.

Delighted by its return, Jennette Arnold, London Assembly Member for Waltham Forest has announced she will officially open the festival on the Chingford Green on June 28.

"I am really looking forward to the Chingford Village Festival and I’m delighted to be opening this year’s celebrations.

"The festival is always such a fabulous community event that brings together people from all over Chingford, other parts of Waltham Forest and beyond.

"Nothing says summer more than a Village Festival and I can’t wait to see the craft stalls, live music and entertainment for all the family."

Ms Arnold also paid tribute to Ms Bull for her "tireless effort every year" in making sure the event takes place.

Up to 50 young sea cadets and royal marines from Waltham Forest will perform a tug of war, a field gun completion and continuity drill on the green, and will also include a singing performance from one of the members.

Due to funding concerns and a health operation in 2013, Ms Bull had to cancel the event.

However, this year the five-hour festival from 12pm to 5pm is being funded through the cost of pitches for stallholders and sponsorship by the Guardian.

Last month, it was announced The Station House pub would host a series of live performances, but the venue has now changed to Loco Lounge, a bar along Station Road.

More bands, acts, and stall holders will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
