A man has admitted tying up and killing a pensioner in her home.

Thomas Blazquez, 50, of Onslow Gardens, South Woodford, pleaded guilty at Southwark Crown Court to the manslaughter of Rosemary Shearmanon, on the grounds of diminished responsibility, but denies murder.

The 77-year-old widow, with two children and two grandchildren, was found dead in her Platford Green home in September 2013.

Her body was found after a taxi driver she had earlier booked turned up at her house.

After he received no response, he contacted neighbours who entered the home, where he made the discovery.

A post-mortem gave the cause of death as a "mechanical obstruction of the upper airway".

The trial continues.
