A group of teachers from Debden Park High School will end the term with a charity cycle ride to France.

Deputy headmaster Gareth Davies and seven other staff from the school, in Willingale Road, Debden, plan to complete the route in under 48 hours to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The team aged between 25 and 40, will set out on July 18 and cycle one hundred miles a day before arriving in Paris.

Mr Davies said: "The idea came about after some of us started to cycling to work together to try to save money and stay fit.

"Every penny we raise will go to charity. We are self-supported, so we will pay for hotels and ferries ourselves.

"The team have all been training and we plan on cycling to Brighton together as a practice run."

After setting up a donations page a week ago the group has already raised more than £500.
