A 48-hour strike by Tube workers is set to begin today.

Members of the Rail and Maritime Union (RMT) are set to stage a 48-hour walk-out from 9pm over plans to close ticket offices, with the loss of up to 960 jobs.

They are not due to return to work until 9pm on Wednesday.

Talks between the RMT and London Underground (LU) are expected to resume today.

The RMT has called the plans ‘toxic to the core’ but LU officials say the union has offered no credible alternatives.

The union and LU have met more than 40 times through the conciliatory service Acas since the last 48-hour strike in February.

If the dispute is not resolved, a second, 72-hour strike is planned on May 5.

EXPECTED IMPACT ON SERVICES

Central Line

Trains will run between Epping/Hainault and Leytonstone around every ten minutes in both directions. If possible this will extend to Holborn.

These trains would not stop at Redbridge, Gants Hill or Wanstead stations. It is possible that some other stations may also need to close at times.

There will be a service between West Ruislip and White City about every 10 - 15 minutes in both directions.

Victoria Line

Trains are expected to run between Seven Sisters and Victoria abut every five minutes in both direction, with a possible service to Brixton.

These trains would not stop at Pimlico, Vauxhall or Warren Street stations. Some other stations may also be closed.

Commuters are advised to check the service before travelling and consider alternative routes, including London buses.
