A man has died after the car he was travelling in collided with a sign post, police have revealed.

Andreas Elias, 21, from South Woodford, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in Woodford Road, Forest Gate, at 2am on April 20.

A post mortem showed the cause of death was head injuries.

The driver of the car, a 24-year-old woman, remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Another passenger, a 24-year-old woman, was discharged from hospital after being treated for minor injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which happened outside a supermarket near Wanstead flats.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0208 597 4874.

Nothing like an exact location.
I imagine anyone who would be a useful witness has enough information with the road and time.

'A supermarket near Wanstead Flats'

I could imagine the response from a police control room if asking for the police to attend such a vague location.

The clue is in the name "witnesses". Someone who saw a car crashing into a lamppost. They've already been there.

It's a disgrace that one trollish person is allowed to hijack the comments, when a man has lost his life.

Villagecranberry, have some respect for the family and friends, who are no doubt reading this, ridiculous digression. Disgraceful.

If the appeal from the police is for witnesses to an accident, the Police should at least give the precise location. Wanstead flats covers a big area.

As for your assertion of 'trolling' I am actually pointing this out to assist the family, who of course have my deepest sympathy for their loss.

As for Alan's comment, people's minds can be jogged if they are reminded of events and locations and may be able to furnish key information, so I really cannot understand your point.

Well, Village, you do make some good points in this response, as I agree that perhaps a more precise location description may jog memories.

But I felt that your comment, a complaint about the information itself, seemed to prompt a derailing of the main point, which is that a tragic death occurred; the focus drifted away from that completely.

RIP and I hope witnesses do step forward.
