A pantomime group will continue despite proposed plans to turn Sir James Hawkey Hall into a library.

Woodford Pantomime confirmed they had met with Vision Redbridge Culture and Leisure and have been assured that the pantomime is part of their future plans.

Controversial plans to close Woodford Green Library, in Snakes Lane West, and move services to Sir James Hawkey Hall, in Broomhill Road had put the pantomime in doubt.

But despite the plans, Woodford Pantomime have been assured they can take over the hall from January 2 to will perform Cinderella throughout the month.

Judy Linard, committee member, said: "We were extremely worried as we know the hall like the back of our hand so we did not know what we were going to do if we have to move. But Vision have been very accomodating and it is a relief."

Graham Widger, stage manager, said: "It is fantastic as we have been here for 50 years and it is a great venue that works well. People expect us to be there every year and we would struggle to find another place."

It will be the 54th annual pantomime by the company, and they will spend four days transforming the Sir James Hawkey Hall into a theatre with tiered seating and lighting.

Auditions will be taking place for dancers, chorus and principals on June 15 10–1pm at The Theydon Bois Scout Hut and June 18 7-9pm at the Theydon Bois Youth Centre.
