Firefighters will walk out at noon as part of a series of strikes over pensions this weekend.

Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) will not be on call for five hours today, then between 2pm tomorrow and 2am on Sunday, and between 10am and 3pm on Sunday.

Fire stations in New North Road in Hainault, High Road in Ilford and Snakes Lane in Woodford Green will run a reduced service today, and only urgent calls will be attended by London Fire Brigade (LFB).

The FBU opposes changes to firefighters’ pensions which it claims are unfair.

LFB have been forced to deploy 27 engines around London and it advised minor incidents such as rubbish and grass fires will not be attended.

The Department for Communities and Local Government said the decision to strike showed the union was not serious about finding a resolution for its members and they were offering firefighters one of the most generous pension schemes in the public sector.
