A pedestrian hit by a council CCTV car is to undergo surgery this afternoon.

The victim, a 42 year-old woman, was taken to the Royal London Hospital with head and leg injuries after the car mounted the pavement in Kings Head Hill, Chingford, at around 7am.

Police have said her injuries remain serious but are not thought to be life-threatening. She remains in hospital and is set to undergo surgery on her leg later today.

The collision took place opposite Chingford Police Station and officers administered first aid to the woman prior to the arrival of the ambulance service at 7:15am.

Kings Head Hill was cordoned off at the junction of The Ridgeway for seven hours.

The driver of the silver Toyota Yaris is now facing an internal investigation by Waltham Forest Council's parking enforcement contractor, NSL.

Belinda Webb, head of communications at NSL, said: "We can confirm an incident occurred this morning in Waltham Forest, involving one of our drivers, who was in a CCTV vehicle and a pedestrian.

"Following questioning by police, the driver and vehicle have now both been released and we shall undertake our own investigation.

"The pedestrian is uppermost in our thoughts and we are all wishing her a swift recovery."

Police have said no-one has been arrested at this stage.
